Materials Guide

We strive to build eyewear for the future, driven by our focus on extending product lifecycle, producing with sustainable materials and creating products with outstanding build quality. Each pair of Hot Futures sunglasses is designed in East London and handmade in China.

ACETATE

Hot Futures eyewear frames are handmade from high grade cellulose acetate, a semi-synthetic hypoallergenic material. To produce this material, an organic base substance made from cotton and wood pulp is combined with a plasticiser to create a hard, robust yet flexible material which can be carved, shaped and polished into the desired form.

We take a sustainable first approach when selecting our acetates for production.

Acetate materials used in our eyewear, include the following:

Recycled

Recyclable to Global Recycled Standard.

ECO

Bio based, biodegradable and recyclable.

FSC

Acetate granules sourced from Forest Stewardship Council certified sources.

LENSES

Hot Futures eyewear frames are fitted with 100% UVA/B protected optical grade lenses.

CR39

Light-weight, scratch resistant with superior visual clarity on the ABBE scale.

Nylon

Super light-weight, scratch resistant with high visual ABBE clarity. Used in our rimless and wraparound designs which require enhanced lens flexibility.

HARDWARE

We only use industry leading alloy materials for our metal product components including hinges, core wires, frames and other metal hardware.
